One of the best known and loved slots series to come out of the gaming halls of Las Vegas are the excellent Wheel of Fortune machines. These games take the epic formula created by the well-known gameshow and give it some real legs on the casino stage. We’ve seen many different iterations of this classic format, almost rivalling the other big series to come out of Nevada, the Monopoly slots. In mid-2015 IGT released a new variant that combines the brilliant Multi-Way Xtra system with this much loved format in the form of Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin.
When it comes to looks, Wheel of Fortune takes the bold step of going backwards in time to a land of cherries, fruit, diamonds and reel symbols that celebrate the prizes available in this top TV production. With a background that mimics the set of the gameshow complete with lights and action all that you’re missing is the camera. Even though you’re looking at a set of old school graphics, the action lurking behind this front end is very in line with today’s playing expectations.
There is something incredibly cool about the sound effects and music on the Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin. These blend classic arcade noises from the golden age of the video cabinet giving you that classic 1990s feeling complete with bells and whistles. Put this together with a rolling club style soundtrack that uses bursts of Las Vegas big band music and you have the formula for an audio extravaganza that’s nothing short of truly entertaining.
In the Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin base game, there’s a 720 ways to win Multi Way Xtra system that pays you out prizes for any combination of adjacent symbols anywhere on the reels. For every additional permutation of symbols you hit across the unique hexagonal reel arrangement you can earn one additional multiplier. This means that when you throw a bunch of stacked wilds into the mix on every reel there’s some very real possibilities for landing massive multiple combinations that can pay out in a serious way. This is the key to making money on the base game here.
The first bonus you can hit on the reels of Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin is the straight scatter feature. Stop in three of the activating scatters anywhere in view on the reels and you’ll activate this cool straight cash reward. Each activating symbol turns into a mini Wheel of Fortune with a number of different cash rewards available. Each one stops in turn, and you’re paid out a total of the prizes across all the active wheels.
If you want the big money then this is available from the Triple Extreme bonus round. Hit three or more of the triple spin scatters to activate this feature, which takes you to a second screen sub game. Here you get to pick envelopes – you receive as many picks as activating scatters. These envelopes give you pointers on the three bonus reels. The yellow and blue reels contain cash amounts, whilst the red reel gives you multipliers. When you have finished your picks it’s over to the reels for a single spin. Cash amounts from the blue and yellow reels are added together whilst the multiplier from the red reel is applied to the total.
Slot Professor Says
Do you know what? I wanted to say that Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin is a thing of the past. A relic of a bygone slot machine age where titles based on out of date game-shows no longer have a place in the fast paced casino environments of the internet. Then I only went and played the damn thing and I have to say this is a title that is nothing short of awesome. The balance is superb, the cash out from the frequent scatter pays keeps things interesting and there’s more charm than you can possibly imagine waiting for you in the big bonus game.
Looking at the standard base game, I don’t know what IGT has done here, but for some reason this is the most playable Multi-Way Xtra title I’ve ever come across. There’s tons of wins that constantly flow off the reels instead of the fast drain that many players have come to associate with machines from this series. There is plenty of action on offer here and the stacked wilds and fast paced scatter action together with the high paying top symbols give this game an excellent variance.
Finally there’s the bonus game. You can get incredibly lucky with this big spinner although more often than not the wins seem to be fixed at the lower end of the value scale. However, this doesn’t mean that you’re looking at small prizes by any stretch of the imagination as even the minor pay outs from these big wheels are often real money.
