The Dark Knight slot machine is a re-skinning of another Microgaming slot, Lord of the Rings. It uses pretty much the same reel game technology and you can still see some awesome movie clips with the cinematic spins feature. Graphically, this is one of the best looking games you’ll find in any online casino.
- Cinematic spins features classic scenes from the Dark Knight movie
- Collect multipliers and free spins in the free spin game
- Play wheel of fortune style game to pick up a progressive jackpot
- Batman appears to change whole reels into wilds
- Stacked wild symbols lead to the big combinations
- Joker appears on the reels to randomly award prizes
- 243 ways to win pays for any consecutive combination of symbols on the board
The music and audio on offer from The Dark Knight slot machine is suitably spooky and atmospheric. It uses the same haunting tracks as you’ll find in the film and there’s some lovely drum roll noises that help build up the anticipation of the action on the reels.
Animations are good with the off reel Batman and The Joker sprites both looking good and the photographic reel symbols coming to life when you hit the right combinations.
The base game in The Dark Knight plays across some 243 different pay-lines, which you to bet on for one fixed price. There’s plenty to hit on the reels, but to help you really ramp up your win the game features clusters of stacked wild symbols that are great for helping you achieve the big combination wins.
The Joker can swing in onto the reels after any spin and attack the win counter, adding prizes at random to your rewards. Batman can make a similarly unexpected appearance, only rather than just adding cash to the bank, he’ll turn entire reels wild, which as you’ll no doubt have realised can really help pump up your winnings for most spins. Of course, he can appear and make a number of reels wild and not complete any combinations for you. This can be a little frustrating, but this is the only bad thing we have to say about this bonus.
Stop in three of the Joker scatters to take you into the Dark Knight slot machine’s bonus round. Here you’ll receive a standard 15 free spins and a 2x multiplier to begin with during the feature. During the free spin bonus the Joker and Batman can still make an appearance, with Batman turning reels wild – however the Joker will be a much more welcome sight. The Clown Prince of Crime will appear during your free spins and ‘attack’ the free spin counter, adding more free spins to your coffers and also have a pop at the multiplier counter, increasing it for subsequent spins.
The progressive jackpot game in The Dark Knight slot is the classic Mega Moolah wheel of fortune game. This can be awarded after any spin on the reels, taking you to a second screen where you’ll see a large wheel divided up into four different coloured segments, each corresponding to one of the game’s progressive prizes. There’s only one segment that corresponds to the top mega jackpot, but loads for the smaller jackpots. You spin the wheel and whatever segment the spinner lands on, that’s the prize you collect. These range from the very small mini jackpot right up to the massive mega progressive prize.
Slot Professor Says
I loved the Dark Knight film, but unfortunately I'm not such a big fan of this slot machine. It's got a lot going good for it in terms of cool animations and its big cinematic backgrounds feature, but there's a reason why they re-skinned the Lord of the Rings game, which is that the mathematical model behind both these slots simply isn't a great payer.
There is a lot of action in the bonus game on The Dark Knight slot, but there's not so much going on with the base-game. Despite the 243 different ways to win and the addition of the stacked wilds on the reels, the prizes on offer for combination wins simply ain't that great. You can pick up some nice wins with the Batman bonus, which turns the reels wild, but this rarely hits. The Joker on the other hand does make frequent appearances, but he only seems to award a handful of credits.
If you like your big film tie-in slots and the look of game is important to you, then The Dark Knight is definitely worth a few spins. It's always good to play on a game that offers a progressive prize that seeds at a million and you've always got a shout at winning that big amount, however small a cry that may be. I'm just doubtful that this slot machine will make anyone's list of top casino titles.
