Believe it or not, Jack Hammer, star of Jack Hammer 2 – Fishy Business, is actually a Marvel comic book charter. As you’ve probably guessed it, this machine is the follow up slot to the original Jack Hammer game.
This fact is clearly illustrated in the opening movie, which shows Jack at the awards ceremony where he’s thanked for saving the city in the original game. However, all is not what it seems as they say in the trade as Don Crabby makes an impromptu appearance, kidnapping the beautiful nightclub singer, Pearl, leaving only one course of action for our hero.
As you’d expect with a slot machine modeled on a comic book character, Jack Hammer 2- Fishy Business has a distinctly comic book look and feel.
The reel game is arranged like a comic frame, complete with gutter, and rather than having a reel structure, each ‘pane’ in the frame can spin independently, which helps with the sticky wins reel system that we’ll be discussing later in the review.
The sonics are suitably good, reminiscent of a Dick Tracy cartoon strip. All in all another top notch production from the guys down at NetEntertainment.
The base game in Jack Hammer 2- Fishy Business gives you a huge number of pay-lines, 99, for just one bet of 50 coins. This gives you a ton of winning opportunities and Net Entertainments haven’t been stingy with the prizes either – there’s still some pretty big pay-outs available for hitting five symbol combinations, giving you loads of winning potential in the base game.
Jack Hammer 2 – Fishy Business uses a very innovative re-spin system on the reels known as ‘sticky wins’. If you hit any win, then this locks in place and all the remaining stop spaces on the grid are spun again.
If you then hit more winning symbols, again these hold in place and the rest of the stop spaces on the grid spin. This process continues until your spin gives you no additional symbols, or the grid is completely filled with winning lines. Needless to say, this can lead to some pretty tasty prize hauls straight off the reels.
Stop in five or more of the electric eel scatters (you only need stop in three to start a sticky wins respin with these symbols) to get yourself into the Jack Hammer 2 – Fishy Business free spin round. The more electric eels you hit, the more spins you’re rewarded with, with a maximum of 20 free spins coming your way if you can hit eight or more of this shocking symbol.
Then it’s off to the second set of reels where you’ll take your free spins. During this round, random wilds will appear on the reels, helping you complete even more big winning pay-out combinations. Naturally the sticky wins reel mechanism is still in place.
Slot Professor Says
Jack Hammer 2 – Another one of the Platinum Slots from those crazy guys at Net Entertainments, and another winner too. This is a very well put together machine that just seems to work. You've got to love the sticky wins system, which is a very clever re-spin mechanism and shows that there is still life in the slot machine format and new ground to be discovered. I've said it before and I'll say it again – hats off to this developer for continually coming up with new concepts and ideas for the internet audience.
This slot machine is all about hitting the big multiple line combinations. None of the symbols pay out that well – even for five or more, but with 99 pay-lines in place, who cares? The fuller you get the grid with one type of symbol – the bigger your pay-outs.
Faults? Well Jack Hammer 2 – Fishy Business simply doesn't look as good as the other games in the Platinum Slots series. In fact, I'd even go as far as saying that it almost seems to be a bit of a third rate production when compared with many of the games from other providers out there, such as IGT. They've failed to hit the right blend of artwork with their cartoon-like format and it falls short of the mark. Just from a visual perspective, I'm not a fan.
What you do have here is a fairly volatile slot. Expect a few big wins interspersed a few small ones from Jack Hammer 2 – Fishy Business and don't expect to get into the bonus round any time soon. This is a slot that does have the power to pay big with the sticky wins, and can really throw the money out when you get a lot of similar symbols across the 99 pay-lines. However, in order to balance this out it can mean you get large areas of dead space where very little actually happens.
