The Fantastic Four is another winning slot machine from Playtech. It originally started life as a twenty pay-line game, but over time has evolved to offer players a whopping fifty lines spread over a standard casino set up. This gives you tons of chances to hit those lovely multiple combinations, especially with the frequently appearing logo wild symbol. The scatter on the reels will also be a welcome sight to players, granting access to the bonus round.
Graphically the Fantastic Four draws more on the formula set up by the Hollywood movie as opposed to the good looks of the comic strip. All of the characters are there on the reels, together with the conventional poker symbols that are a recognised staple of the genre. These come to life when you hit combinations and all your winning combos are lit up over the fifty pay-lines following each spin. A well produced game that scores well in this area.
The sound on Fantastic Four is very generic. Playtech have really missed a trick here, eschewing high level audio in favour of very generic casino noises. Something just doesn’t feel right about the mix between the FX and visuals. You’re looking at a very high level of graphical excellence and smooth animations here, and you get the feeling that the sound should in some way match. The noise this game generates might be appropriate for a low level fruit based slot, but it just doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the game. Just check the music out on the pay-table – why couldn’t this be used in the base-game too?
The Fantastic Four gives you access to four different free spin games through the bonus feature. This is activated in the standard three scatter manner – then it’s off to a special second screen where you’ll get to choose which one of four different bonus rounds. These are all based around the different characters from the Fantastic Four. There’s the Mr Fantastic round, which gives you four spins with expanding wilds. The Invisible Woman gives you four spins with increasing multipliers. The Human Torch appears almost everywhere on the reels during his free spins, and you get a bunch of sticky wilds in the Thing’s free spin round – but you’ll only get three free spins if you choose this chunky hero’s bonus.
On top of all this, the Fantastic Four gives you access to the superb Marvel Hero jackpots sub-game. If you look at the top of the slot you’ll notice four ever growing progressive prize. To win one of these big money cash-pots you’ll need to gain entry into the special grid game, which can be granted after any spin completely at random. If you can find three similar symbols on the grid, then you win the associated prize amount.
Slot Professor Says
If you're looking for a big money slot machine with loads of pay-line potential that's not Wolf Run then the Fantastic Four makes a really good alternative. What do I like about this game? I like the fact that Playtech haven't expanded the standard fifteen stop space casino slot set up to facilitate these extra pay-lines, which increases your chances of getting lots of multiple winning combinations. This is good stuff for starters.
On the downside, I do find the pay-table a little stingy. It seems that you really have to get into the bonus game on Fantastic Four to really stand a chance of hitting a big pay-out or if you're really lucky on to the big paying Marvel jackpot game. It's a bit of a shame as it seems that many of these bigger pay-line slot machines really do crush the life out of the pay-table.
Still, the bonuses here are excellent and well thought out. The game designers have done their bit by creating four great little free spin features and the best thing about them – they're all accessible from just one scatter mechanism, which means that you can choose the feature that you love best. Alright you don't exactly get a huge number of spins, but with some of the extra reel specials on offer – such as the expanding wilds and the multipliers it's unlikely that you'll need a ton of goes to hit a big winner.
