Part of his charm was his explosive martial arts skill that could turn any situation his way. You can now experience similarly fiery action on the reels of the slot machine named after this Hong Kong hero – Bruce Lee – one of the top performing titles from WMS. It uses powerful reel mechanics together with stacked symbols and an awesome bonus feature to deliver one of the knockout slots from this top development house’s catalogue.
Like many WMS slots, we’re not overly blown away with the graphics on offer from Bruce Lee. The background has a touch of Far East style about its red construction, but there’s nothing there that’s going to excite your eyes as much as some of the new Net Entertainments games. The symbols on the reels are all a little too predictable, although there are some nice animations that bring the whole production to life in the bonus round. Sadly the same can be said of the music. This is another slot that uses the generic music from the WMS range and whilst this does have some nice melodies to its construction, we’ve heard it a few too many times before.
The Bruce Lee slot machine uses a special set of reels known as the Money Burst arrangement. Here you have two stop spaces on the first two reels, opening up to four spaces on the last three reels, giving you five reels in total. There are some sixty fixed pay-lines available in this game, but you’ll be pleased to learn that you only have to bet 1 coin on every two lines keeping the overall spin cost down.
What is the implication of these two smaller reels at the beginning of Bruce Lee’s grid? Well, if you can fill both reels up with similar symbols then you stand a good chance of winning prizes across all sixty pay-lines – especially when you bring what WMS refer to as clumped wilds into the mix. These are chains of wilds that appear on the reels, giving you some big chances to hit those multiple symbol combinations that can make or break your session.
That’s not all however – if you manage to stop in four similar symbols in the first two reels then you’ll also activate the free spin bonus. Here you’ll get five spins with your winning symbols held in place on the first two reels. There are two other ways to activate the bonus. You can either hit the three treasure chest scatters, which gives you 5 free spins with no held symbols on the first two reels, or you can hit four similar symbols on the first two reels and hit the three treasure chest scatters. This gives you the top award of 20 free spins with all symbols on the first two reels locked in place.
No matter how you activated your free spins, you always get to take them on the Bruce Lee slot’s special second set of reels. Here you get random wilds added to the last three reels and one reel will also be randomly turned wild. This means that if you can access the bonus through the locked symbol mechanism, you know you’re guaranteed a fairly big win. If you can hit twenty spins at this level, then the pay-outs are nothing short of titanic. This is a very clever bonus system that is unique to WMS, providing players with a ton of anticipation in a very volatile game structure that has the power to provide the big prize punch.
Slot Professor Says
I am a big fan of the reel action available in Bruce Lee. If you like reading my reviews and opinions, then you’ll no doubt already be aware of the fact that I’m a real sucker for unique and exciting game-play mechanisms. WMS’s Money Burst is a great little system that’s been thought up in their labs, bringing a whole fresh blast of air to the genre. It’s quite simply another clever take on a century old set up.
One thing I will say about Bruce Lee is that you shouldn’t get your hopes up about hitting the maximum bonus symbols. It really is hard enough trying to get all four symbols to line up on the first two reels, let alone doing it and hitting the bonus scatters on the same spin. I’d suggest that you consider yourself lucky if you manage to hit the locked symbols – this usually provides you with a pretty tasty pay-day – although more often than not you can walk away a little disappointed from this machine if you hit the bonus with just the scatters. More often than not this tends to pay a little on the poor side, but hey – that’s what you get with highly volatile games.
What kind of play would I suggest is best for Bruce Lee? This is a slot that in many ways is the antithesis of games like Zeus, Golden Goddess and Rainbow Riches. Whilst you tend to hit a ton of winners on these slots, you don’t get the big prizes. Bruce Lee on the other hand pays out some massive wins – there are huge rewards hiding in its reels – but you won’t hit them too often. Spin this game when you’ve got money to burn or are looking for that huge cash hit. It’s not a session slot, it’s a machine for the brave.
