Bitten is a slot game that’s very similar to the classic Cleopatra sequel, the Cleopatra II slot. Where the gaudy reels of Cleopatra II shine, those of the Bitten slot simmer in with sultry style. Bitten has clearly been inspired by the Elvira – Mistress of the Dark archetype in all its 1950’s B-Movie glory. Whilst this isn’t a premise that immediately brings huge wealth to mind, the makers of the game have managed to frame it within a scene where you’re a canny adventurer raiding a great vampiress’s tomb, in order to steal the massive fortune she’s amassed over her undead years.
The graphics on Bitten are excellent, really capturing the feel of the classic horror film genre with a background that’s more than reminiscent of a spooky woodland scene that you might expect to find when walking up the drive-way to a vampiress’s mansion.
The two teeth that make up the ‘T’s in the Bitten logo at the top of the screen periodically drip with blood following big wins, leaving a trail of blood down the slot game’s reels. These very same reels are covered with creepily styled poker symbols and the type of treasures you’d expect to find in a mausoleum belonging to a blood-sucking queen, including a heart pendant, goblet of blood and a candelabra.
The audio on the Bitten slot is truly first class with spooky music and vampiress vocals that congratulate you on every win, yet at the same time manage to give you the sense you’re being lured towards some beautiful doom. The final detail rests with the game’s wild symbol, which is not only able to substitute for any other symbol on the reels, but also doubles the value of any combination it appears in, whilst also acting as a prize paying scatter too. That’s a lot of play from just one symbol.
The best thing about Bitten is the bonus game, which can really pay you the immortal fortunes of a vampiress. This feature is activated by the the crypt bonus scatter symbol, with three symbols paying a prize of three times the total activating bet and awarding 7-15 free spins. If you scatter in four symbols then you’re paid a prize of ten times the activating bet and awarded 8-17 free spins, and finally if you scatter in five symbols then you’re paid a prize of a 100x your activating bet and awarded 10- 20 free spins.
No matter how many symbols you use to get into the bonus round, as soon as you’ve scattered them in you’re off to a second screen where you get to chose one casket out of three in order to find out how many spins you’ll be taking into the bonus round. In classic slot game fashion, you naturally get to see what you could have won in the remaining two caskets, before venturing off further into the free spin crypt.
The free spin game, as with many bonus rounds of this type, takes place on specially enhanced reels that feature even more wilds and scatters than those used in the standard base game. This is a free spin game where every spin of the reels increases the game’s multiplier by one – just like in Cleopatra 2 – so if you’ve got twelve free spins then any wins awarded on the last spin will be multiplied twelve times, making a sexy win out of even the smallest award. This free spin game can also be reactivated by scattering in the necessary symbols, giving a maximum award of fifty free spins.
Slot Professor Says
Bitten is a beautiful slot game and as I’ve mentioned in the review section, it’s comparable with Cleopatra II. In both games the money is stacked on the free spin round, so Bitten has the potential to pay massive prizes with a few slight tweaks on the formula presented by Cleopatra II. I’d still suggest that this is a slot for the determined player who’s prepared to bet at just the right level to ensure they make it to the richly stacked bonus reels.
Other players have suggested that the Bitten slot game is one that adheres to a pay and recover cycle where it will go through a negative payment cycle after paying a big win. This would suggest that a strategy of dropping your stake amount for a number of spins could be beneficial following a big win on Bitten. However the more mathematically minded, such as myself, would claim that a slot game has just as much chance of paying it big on the very next spin following a jackpot as it does of paying big a thousand spins later.
However, on average big wins do seem to come at intervals on slot games like Bitten, so when looking at the distribution of wins over playing time there is a good argument for this kind of strategy working. If you’re going to use this strategy as opposed to betting consistently within your bankroll I’d strongly suggest you take Bitten for a good few free spins to get an idea of its frequency.
